According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics: U.S. Department of Labor, these eight occupations have the highest incident rates that lead to Days Away From Work (DAFW). The incident rate statistics are based on the number of injuries or illnesses per 10,000 full-time workers. These occupations fall in the private industry, as well as both state and local governments:
- Correctional Officers and Jailers:5 incident rate in State Government; 333 incident rate in Local Government; 345.4 incident rate in Private Industry.
- Firefighters: 624 incident rate in State Government; 422.2 incident rate in Local Government.
- Heavy and Tractor Trailer Drivers:5 incident rate in State Government; 957.6 incident rate in Local Government; 298.9 incident rate in Private Industry.
- Janitors and Cleaners:7 incident rate in State Government; 657.4 incident rate in Local Government.
- Laborers, Freight, Stock and Material Movers: 296 incident rate in State Government; 957.6 incident rate in Local Government; 289.4 incident rate in Private Industry.
- Nursing Assistants:9 incident rate in State Government; 494.5 incident rate in Local Government327.8 incident rate in Private Industry.
