Employment Excitement for Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Athletic Trainers
April 18, 20208 Reasons to Start Your Own Practice With the KEY Method
May 13, 2020Are you a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Athletic Trainer who is yet puzzled about your ‘Recovery and Renew Plan’ in response to this Covid Crisis?
In a previous article, I spoke about the importance of ‘letting no serious crisis go to waste’. I followed that with an article providing a brief introduction to the benefits of working with Employers in the niche arena of Industrial Therapy and Occupational Health. Today I want to briefly explore what I believe to be the easiest “Entry Level Service”.
Important Factors for Planning
- Choose a financially sound Entry Level Service to provide
- Choose Employer markets based on Size, Location and Occupational Injury Rates
- Choose Physician relationships based on their Patient Base
Choosing the right “Entry Level Service” is my focus in this writing: There are many points on this service delivery spectrum that you could step in to – based on your training and experience (refer to the Worker Care Spectrum on our KEYMethod.com web site). I recommend to most, however, begin with providing FCAs – Functional Capacity Assessments and add Prior-to-Hire Assessments shortly after that.
- Low Cost expedient Entry Point
- Minimal to no space requirement
- Services can be administered by different levels of staff
- Direct Pay or Insurance reimbursement depending on service and referral need
- Ability to start marketing to current relationships before moving externally
The rest of the Spectrum can follow, if it is your choice to move further into the specialization. In the field of Industrial therapy, we are working with Employees all the way from before the point of hire, through hire, and then through injury, treatment, Functional Capacity testing and finally their safe return to work. We have the opportunity to interact with employees and employers within that spectrum at many junctures. We also have the opportunity to become the Therapists of Choice for their family members and their friends.
Add a 3-Day Training onto your current skill set and be able to immediately provide a strong introductory service of Functional Capacity Assessments through your past and current partnering referral sources – especially ortho. Follow up with all Employers of all past and present patients and clients – exploring their needs for hiring only capable applicants. Your 30 minute Prior-to-Hire Assessments will decrease their injury rates, saving them lost time and Workers’ Comp and illness costs. HR will be grateful for making the hiring process more objective.
This outreach builds relationship exposure for downstream services for you – not only within your clinic walls, but also at Employer Sites and Fitness Centers should you choose to locate there.
If you want to leverage your own skill set or that of your staff, consider using our KEY Assessments as part of your Entry Level Services. At KEY Functional Assessments Network, we provide proven systems to give you the tools needed for supporting Employers and their Employees and decreasing injuries.
