September 18, 2020We’ll See You Soon at PPS!
October 27, 2020You’ve likely heard the phrase, “think outside the box”. This saying has become embedded in our cultural consciousness, so most of us are accustomed to hearing it. But, as it often happens with these sayings, we hear the phrase so often that we don’t take the time to analyze how it relates to us and our own personal situations.
If you haven’t considered the meaning of this phrase before, right now is certainly the time to do so. This year has served as such a turning point for most of us, providing so much disruption and yet also opportunities for growth, that “thinking outside the box” is now more important than ever. And, if you learn to analyze problems and solutions in this way, you could unlock exciting new paths to advance your career or your therapy practice.
Take a look at this puzzle. Following the instructions exactly, can you connect all nine dots?
At this point, those who are thinking “inside the box” often become frustrated. After multiple attempts, they can’t find any way to connect all nine dots following the provided instructions.
Now, take a look at the solution to the puzzle. Just a warning, many people experience a “forehead-slapping” impulse at this moment!
Now you might be glancing back at the original instructions, and realizing that they never said you couldn’t venture outside the box!
This puzzle serves as an excellent illustration for the way most of us tend to think about problems. In so many cases, we place unnecessary limitations on ourselves. These limitations are not established by actual physical barriers, the law, or anything else other than our own imaginations.
In ordinary times, thinking “inside the box” prevents you from reaching your full potential. But in a year like 2020, learning to think outside the box is practically mandatory.
All this time, you have probably been thinking inside the box with regard to work, your career, or your private practice.
Now, 2020 has made you question everything. Career and business safety isn’t guaranteed anymore, and that box has begun to feel financially and professionally painful and stifling. You might be happy to know that once you step outside of that box, fulfilling and exciting options are available for you – right now. And with practically unlimited opportunities for expansion, you no longer have to ‘settle’.
