4 Tips to Ensure Workplace Safety During the Holiday Season
December 11, 2019A Therapist’s New Year’s Resolution: Step Away from Working in a Clinic
January 11, 2020While others of the on-boarding team may focus on the importance of the interview during a Pre-Hire time frame, you, the Therapist, will not be comfortable with a candidate until they have gone through a standardized process – testing their physical capabilities. This is that action step you offer that gives HR defined Hire/No-Hire criteria. This is the legally defensible Prior-to-Hire physical capability testing. It follows a job offer but is before the actual hiring of the applicant. They will be hired contingent on passing 2 or 3 tests – of which this is one. Until that time, they are not yet hired and as such are not an employee.
Why Use Pre-Hire Assessments?
As a Therapist, what is the purpose of using Pre-Hire Physical Capacity Assessments to support the Employers? This process evaluates the applicant’s physical capabilities to ensure they are physically capable of carrying out the job duties that will be required.
Without a Prior-to-Hire physical capability assessment the Employer is at a higher risk of having an Employee being injured on the job. How will the Employer know to hire or not hire the person if they have not administered a screen or capability assessment on that candidate. When an Employee doesn’t have the physical ability to complete necessary tasks ,they are at a higher risk of injury – or even death – of themselves and others. Your Therapy services are invaluable for minimizing these potential issues.
The Benefit You Can Offer
As a Therapist, you can offer physical capability assessment services (Prior-to-Hire and Pre-Employment services) to assist in the hiring and onboarding processes. Your ability to test for accurate physical capabilities is a valuable resource, not only protecting the health and safety of Employees, but keeping the company within their legal parameters for equal employment hiring practices. HR and on-boarding teams have many rules and regulations to work with during this process – you can make that Hire/No Hire decision more objective and relevant through your testing methodology and results
Ensuring that the person’s physical capabilities are a good fit for the job means that you will help Employers save money by reducing the risk of injury in the workplace. Your services are worth the investment for Employers! Over time, their companies will save a sizeable amount of money by better managing their Employees’ health and their Workers’ Compensation costs.
